When shipping beauty & wellness products especially abroad, it is important to consider the delicate nature of these products and potential impact of transportation.
Common damages observed include:
- Cosmetic damages to external packaging: Creasing, tears, ink marks and general damage. These often impact just the boxes or bottles; the actual products are usually still sellable. We strongly encourage providing extra packaging (boxes or caps) for replacements in case of external damages.
- Product damages:
a) Leakage caused by faulty caps
b) Leakage caused by broken seals or loosened caps during transportation
c) Products with unclear or shorter than expected expiry dates
Products are generally not sellable anymore and product damages will be refunded to the retailer. Leakages tend to also spill to external packaging of other items.
. .
To prevent such damages to your products, here are a few guidelines we recommend:
-
Size-appropriate packaging:
- Choose packaging that fits the size of the skincare product snugly. Avoid excessive empty space inside the packaging, as this can lead to movement and potential damage during transit.
-
Cushioning and Padding:
- Wrap fragile items with sufficient cushioning to absorb shocks and vibrations during transportation. Bubble wrap, packing peanuts, or air-filled cushions can provide effective protection.
-
Outer Packaging:
- Labels that are stuck on outer packaging needs to be securely stuck onto the products. Labels with air bubbles or loose edges are particularly prone to damage during the delivery process
-
If possible, pack products separately from outer packaging (especially if they are boxes) to avoid breakage by customs
- If possible, separately include extra replacement boxes or bottle caps (parts that are commonly damaged as part of the shipment).
-
Inner Packaging:
- If products are not packed separately from outer packaging, place the product in a secondary layer of protection within the primary packaging. This could include individual boxes, pouches, or sleeves to prevent direct contact between items.
-
Seal and Secure:
- Check that products are clean before shipping
- Ensure that the packaging is securely sealed to prevent any leakage or spillage. Use tamper-evident seals to reassure customers that the product has not been opened or compromised during shipping. Note also that high cabin pressure may also sometimes cause broken seals.
-
Labelling and Handling Instructions:
- Clearly label packages as "Fragile" or include handling instructions for courier services. This can alert handlers to take extra care when transporting the package.
